Barring some dramatic and unforeseen development, Sinn Féin is on course to be the largest party and win the First Minister’s position. This would be an historic development, completely shocking to Unionism and undermining British governance in Ireland.
The Met police use disproportionate force against Black and other minoritised children; they use spit-hoods and tasers more often and stop and search them (including strip searching) at far higher rates. There were 9,000 strip searches of children in the past five years alone of which 2000 were under the age of 16. Get police out of our schools.
To assist an increase in the rate of exploitation, Johnson’s government has prioritised boosting profits at every turn. Freezing public sector wages, cutting benefits, ‘fire and rehire’ and the outrageous attack at P&O are all part of the drive to anchor wages lower.
Britain plays only a minor role in the Ukraine conflict, in line with its reduced status as an imperial and military power. But that does not in any way remove its responsibility for the death and destruction now taking place in the Ukraine.
The experience of Covid illustrates Engels’ point. It has vividly demonstrated the role of the family as an economic unit, to provide, unremunerated, unrecognised and with significant personal loss, services that should be socially provided. It is an impossible demand.
