A victory parade for China and humanity

On September 3, China will stage a Victory Parade commemorating the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and China’s contribution to the World War against fascism. This is a solemn day for China and an opportunity for the world to better understand events that are not only historical in character but without which today’s world cannot be comprehended.

1981 Hunger Strike – inflicted a historic defeat on the Thatcher government

The following speech, by Sinn Féin’s Gerry Adams, was made to the 2015 National Hunger Strike march and rally in Dundalk.

The election in 1981 of Irish republicans on hunger strike, to the British parliament and Irish Dáil, proved to the world, beyond doubt, that the political prisoners had immense popular support.

Prime Minister Thatcher’s criminalisation policy, supported by the Irish government, was discredited by election victories that transformed the struggle for a united Ireland.

The mainstream press and the Labour right are in a frenzy, desperate to prevent Jeremy Corbyn winning the Labour leadership after an opinion poll has put him in the lead. The opposing candidates have been completely unable to mount a coherent or strong alternative to his clear anti-austerity message.
