The war in Ukraine, along with sanctions imposed by the United States and Western countries against Russia, have caused global food, fertiliser, and fuel prices to ‘skyrocket’ and endanger the world food supply.
France’s presidential election first round is on 10 April. Jean-Luc Mélenchon is currently standing in third place in the polls. He proposes France withdraw from NATO and his support has been rising in recent weeks. His campaigning has helped to facilitate a rebirth of the left.
Barring some dramatic and unforeseen development, Sinn Féin is on course to be the largest party and win the First Minister’s position. This would be an historic development, completely shocking to Unionism and undermining British governance in Ireland.
The war in Ukraine could be ended extremely rapidly by:
• Making it clear Ukraine will not enter NATO.
• By acceptance of the rights of the Russian speaking population of East Ukraine.
The US’s economic position has weakened greatly. But its military power is still very great. Therefore, the US attempts to move issues onto the military terrain. This explains its escalating military aggression.
