By forcing millions of people to go back to work at a time when the virus is not under control, Johnson’s government has made a decision that will literally kill tens of thousands of people unless it is overturned.
The WHO conditions for safe ending of lockdowns are aimed at eliminating the virus.
The UK government’s conditions are not.
The high incidence of COVID-19 deaths in care homes should come as no surprise. They reflect not only Boris Johnson’s government’s failure to prepare for a pandemic or to respond efficiently when faced with the coronavirus early this year, but a particular underlying narrative to official policy.
Government policy in Britain remains much closer to ‘herd immunity’, which is tantamount to letting the Covid-19 crisis rip through the population, than to an effective lockdown.
The rising daily number of people dying from coronavirus in Britain is disastrous. Deaths are now increasing at almost the fastest rate in the world. If the government does not change its completely inadequate policy the situation will become a catastrophe.
