John Bellamy Foster’s article, in Monthly Review, outlines the real situation in the Ukraine war, from the headline onwards “The US proxy war in Ukraine”. It is recommended for everyone to read in the strongest possible terms.
The war in Ukraine, along with sanctions imposed by the United States and Western countries against Russia, have caused global food, fertiliser, and fuel prices to ‘skyrocket’ and endanger the world food supply.
The war in Ukraine could be ended extremely rapidly by:
• Making it clear Ukraine will not enter NATO.
• By acceptance of the rights of the Russian speaking population of East Ukraine.
The US’s economic position has weakened greatly. But its military power is still very great. Therefore, the US attempts to move issues onto the military terrain. This explains its escalating military aggression.
Britain plays only a minor role in the Ukraine conflict, in line with its reduced status as an imperial and military power. But that does not in any way remove its responsibility for the death and destruction now taking place in the Ukraine.
Do the Ukraine war and the action of the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom spell the end of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency? Even if the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine reach an agreement there will be fallout for the dollar.
