The Met police use disproportionate force against Black and other minoritised children; they use spit-hoods and tasers more often and stop and search them (including strip searching) at far higher rates. There were 9,000 strip searches of children in the past five years alone of which 2000 were under the age of 16. Get police out of our schools.
The mass reopening of schools next Monday will slow, probably stop, and possibly reverse the decline in infections, hospitalisations and deaths that has resulted from the current lockdown.
The whole of society has reason to be grateful to the continuing fight that the education unions – especially the NEU – have led on this, but it’s clear that the struggle continues and will have to be part of the fight for a Zero COVID strategy.
