Building Momentum

One of the important opportunities coming out of the campaign to get Jeremy Corbyn elected as leader of the Labour Party was the possibility to renew political discussion and campaigning in the Labour Party and beyond by maintaining the organisation of the many new, renewed and existing activists that came around the campaign. The first step to achieving this has been taken by the launch of Momentum, a grassroots network based on those who signed up to Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign, which will continue to build support within the labour movement and campaigning organisations for progressive policies.

An excellent start from Jeremy Corbyn

In his first week as Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn racked up some significant achievements: he succeeded in assembling a frontbench parliamentary team and began on the task of setting out Labour’s changed orientation against austerity and presenting an alternative economic policy.

Campaigning to defend Jeremy Corbyn needs to step up a gear

The Labour right is already openly, and covertly, plotting against Jeremy Corbyn. If, as widely expected, he wins the Labour leadership the right’s campaign will only intensify and all those who support anti-austerity, anti-war and anti-racist politics will need to defend him against attack.

Prepare to defend Labour’s new Leader

The results of the Labour Party’s Leadership election will be announced on 12 September, with a Jeremy Corbyn victory widely anticipated. Having been taken off guard by the left’s campaign, big business, the Tories and Labour right-wing are preparing a stepped up offensive to reverse this advance. The left has to prepare to defend Corbyn.
