The emergence of a consistent Labour lead in recent polls is highly significant. It undoubtedly reflects in significant part the damage done to the Tory Party by Brexit, and the fighting within the Conservative Party it has produced, and the correct handling of the issue by Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of Labour.
Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbott should have the full support of the left and the labour movement as a whole in their principled stance in opposing the extradition of Julian Assange to the United States.
The next weeks are going to see rapidly moving political events as Parliament finally seeks to resolve Brexit. It is impossible to foresee every twist and turn. Therefore, it is vital that the left has a clear compass to react to rapidly evolving events.
The decision to charge just one soldier for Bloody Sunday – when 14 people were killed and others seriously injured – is a democratic outrage.
A determined group of workers, with solid support from their union, has achieved a rare victory which is also helping to bring the long period of right-wing dominance in West Midlands Labour to an end.
