China overtook the US as Africa’s largest trading partner, and largest source of investment between 2013 – 2019. The US’s share of Africa’s foreign trade fell from 15.5% to 5.6%, while China’s share jumped from 4% to 25.6%.
China has a won clear victory in the first battle of the US “trade war”. But the U.S. will not abandon its economic struggle against China. This article analyses the forces that will determine the outcome of this “protracted” economic war.
Trump’s real tactic is to defeat the U.S. people, to sharply increase the rate of exploitation of them, and to use this victory to attack China.
If the U.S. cannot succeed in slowing China’s economy, then it can only decrease China’s lead in growth rate by increasing the percentage of net fixed capital formation in the U.S. economy.
A movement is necessary against Trump’s attempt to harness the economies and peoples of Europe to new and globe-threatening wars.
China’s GDP growth rate in 2024 of 5.0% compares to the U.S.’s of 2.8%. China’s was therefore 80% higher than the U.S.
