President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez’s message following the street protests in Cuba on 11 July. The US is trying to provoke political unrest within Cuba. Working through small groups of counterrevolutionaries, the US is taking advantage of the scarcity of food, medicines and power supplies caused by its blockade of Cuba.
The British government is determined to conduct a unique and predictably disastrous experiment by easing all restrictions while the pandemic is raging. However, the public wants ‘freedom day’ postponed and existing measures kept in place and the Labour leadership has positioned itself as a partial critic of the government.
In the coming weeks, the temperature of the race to be president will rise as potential candidates announce their wish to run in party primaries or as independent candidates.
As things stand, the left will not make the second round without unity behind one candidate.
The Tory government will only achieve freedom for the virus to mutate and circulate when current measures to reduce transmission are lifted on 19 July. A complete change of direction is needed to avoid another catastrophe.
