The Tories are seeking to overturn the NI Protocol and are making proposals to the EU that have already been rejected in the past negotiations. A complete disavowal by Labour of the government’s approach is necessary, but has not been forthcoming.
The split in the ruling class – between those who want to continue with business as usual and those who will try to find solutions compatible with capital – is sharply apparent in the US. In the EU the current that thinks this crisis can be “managed” with a few adaptations is in charge – indicating what an unjust transition could look like.
The left has won the Presidency in Peru, giving Pedro Castillo a historic opportunity to open Peru towards democracy and justice. The right will use every mechanism to stifle or coopt him. Castillo, on the other hand, has a base of poor Peruvians that defended his election victory and seems prepared to continue its mobilisations.

Cuba does not expect any gift from the United States, nor does it demand preferential commercial treatment. But Cuba has the right to demand the United States respect its sovereignty and desist from acting to dominate the destiny of Cuba. US aggression should be ended and it should leave Cuba alone.
The trade-off has never been between lives and ‘the economy’. It has always been a trade-off between lives and the opportunity to boost profits.
