The new pact between the Australian, British and US governments is the latest escalation in a new cold war on China, and the developing world. Locking Britain into decades of nuclear escalation in the Pacific is globally dangerous, hugely expensive and totally unnecessary.
Following its humiliation in Afghanistan, the US is it stepping up its military focus on China.
The military pact consists of only three countries and does not even include many of the US’s closest Western allies.
In China’s vision, there should not be a single great power that determines what happens in the world, but a multipolar world order in which countries, powerful and less powerful, decide together.
The political decision has been taken to end the war, not on grounds of morality or even cost. Instead, the US has identified a strategic enemy in China along with its Russian ally and the entire focus must be directed towards blocking its rise. This is the new number one aim and overwhelming priority of the US.
