Defeated in Syria and Afghanistan, and withdrawing from Iraq, the US and its allies are now stepping up their military provocations against Russia and China. Preventing imperialism from launching a serious military conflict is indispensable if humanity is to address the real challenges which it faces.
Right now the issue for the U.S. interventionist machinery in Nicaragua is the coming election to be held on 7 November 2021 with the likely victory of the FSLN. The US is desperate to discredit these elections by orchestrating a stream of media-oriented provocations that may allow it not to recognise the results.
The challenges facing Afghanistan may seem insurmountable, but in large part they have been brought about by the US and NATO and they cannot be part of the solution. The truth is, military intervention has been a disaster and it offers no prospects for the future.
In February 2021 China achieved the eradication of extreme poverty. 850 million people had climbed out of absolute poverty. Per capita income has increased ten-fold in the last twenty years and life expectancy has increased to 77.3 years compared to 35 years in 1949.
The general condition of Afghanistan after 20 years of NATO intervention is that half the population are in humanitarian need and nearly one in two children will face acute malnutrition in 2021 – UN.
The Tunisian President Kais Saied has initiated a coup. Assisted by the army, parliament has been suspended, the Prime Minister sacked and the constitution suspended. Saied has appointed himself head of executive authority and attorney general. A curfew has been imposed with gatherings of more than three people banned. This coup should be opposed.
