The US administration has embarked on a course certain to unleash mass deaths domestically and turn the country into the global centre of the pandemic. Its citizens will decide if they accept this course later this year. But the bigger question is whether it will be permitted to infect the entire world.
“I was the CIA director. We lied, we cheated, we stole. It’s – it was like – we had entire training courses.” These words from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo summarize the White House administration’s claim that COVID-19 originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China.
Today, the Palestinian people are facing two deadly threats – the Covid-19 outbreak and US President Trump’s ill-named “Deal of the Century”. The urgency of the virus is immediate with outbreaks in both Gaza and the West Bank.
The US, ‘the greatest country in the world,’ just can’t admit that China succeeded in dealing with the Covid-19 threat while America has failed. Instead of learning from China, it’s suffering the world’s worst epidemic disaster.
This year’s US Presidential election is of seismic importance. To put it bluntly the prospect of Donald Trump securing another four year term poses a truly dire threat to the future of human civilisation. A victory for Trump would accelerate the world towards climate catastrophe.
