China has overperformed on renewable energy development goals in the last three Five Year Plans (FYP). Already, ambitious implementation of the current FYP at the local level is boosting overperformance at the national level.

A new report from the International Renewable Energy Agency heralds a ‘significant shift in the energy paradigm’ as renewable energy prices are set to become competitive with fossil fuels by 2020. Within the next two years all clean energy will fall within the cost range of fossil fuels.

This week the British Parliament will vote on the shape of our energy system for the next 40 years. The vote will lay bare the deep divisions in the British bourgeoisie between those who accept that urgent and transformational change is needed in order to keep the planet inhabitable for humanity, and those prepared in the face of overwhelming evidence of climate change to further bolster vested interests of carbon industries.
