After Orbán, Hungary faces renewed pressure to support increases in EU military spending and reduce trade with China

14th May 2026 shoreditchadmin2 0

Any change in Hungary’s policy towards Ukraine will have repercussions in Central and Eastern Europe. Orbán had previously aligned closely with the Slovakian PM Robert Fico around the war in Ukraine and more recently with the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, who was elected in December 2025.

Defending Iran against US and Israeli aggression will be a prolonged struggle

13th May 2026 shoreditchadmin2 0

The US does not need west Asia’s oil for itself, its strategy is to be able to deny it to others, particularly China.
Because this is key for the US, it will not give up its attack on Iran, only the forms will change.
Trump has lost the first round in this war on Iran, but it is too early to assume the US will lose the war.

Sinn Féin Ard Fheis 2026 – the complexity of progress

11th May 2026 shoreditchadmin2 0

This year’s Ard Fheis registered the continuing strength of Sinn Féin and the complexity of the tasks it now faces.
It is the strongest party in the north and polling ahead of the two governing coalition parties in the south.

La France Insoumise is building momentum for a strong left in the 2027 presidential election

29th April 2026 shoreditchadmin2 0

After its historic electoral breakthrough in the recent municipal elections, La France Insoumise (LFI) has adopted its political Roadmap for the 2027 presidential election.
It is proposing to unite a broad coalition around a programme of radical change or rupture – with opposition to austerity, racism and war at the heart of that programme.

Iran won the first battle against the US, but the war is far from over

20th April 2026 shoreditchadmin2 0

Iran has won the first battle in the US war of aggression against it. But it is an error to claim, as some genuinely and rightly against the US aggression have done, that Iran has yet won the war. This is based on an underestimation of the strength and ruthlessness of US imperialism.

Challenges for the anti-war movement in the fight against the US/Israeli attack on Iran

31st March 2026 shoreditchadmin2 0

A US escalation of its war on Iran carries the threat of world recession, climate catastrophes and horrendous levels of fatalities and suffering. The anti-war movement must be preparing to oppose any escalation and work to achieve a wider mobilisation.
