NATO is the core military alliance of the European and North American imperialist states structured around the predominance – increasingly brashly and recklessly asserted – of the US. Smaller direct alliances in the Pacific with Japan and S Korea, and AUKUS complement it, with Israel as a West Asian frontier state. Countries seeking to join it are aiming to become junior members of the global predators’ club.
The Ankara NATO summit will not only discuss defence and deterrence; it will reveal how deeply the future of capitalism, technology and organised violence has become intertwined. It will be yet another chapter in the political economy of permanent mobilization for warfare.
US imperialism’s war against Iran is entering its thirteenth week and likely to be protracted. It has killed thousands in Iran and devastated many buildings. It is also having an immense impact on the economy across the globe, and here in Britain.
The US does not need west Asia’s oil for itself, its strategy is to be able to deny it to others, particularly China.

Firstly, it is certain to assault the living standards, welfare, and life expectancy of over ninety million Iranians. Secondly, it is most likely to trigger a new war on Iran.
