Saturday 3 February
Assemble 12pm Gower Street Central London WC1
Organised by the People’s Assembly Against Austerity and Health Campaigns Together
8 years of Tory austerity has created a serious crisis for the NHS. The attacks on public services by the Tory government, has seen the NHS starved of funding – with cuts to services, wages cuts and staff shortages. At the same time, the creeping privatisation of parts of the NHS is making the health service more expensive to deliver with more money required to provide less services as private companies cream off their profits.
The queues for A & E, the cancellation of 55,000 appointments in early January and delays in operations have dramatically revealed the extent of the damage being caused by Tory austerity to the NHS.
68 senior doctors in charge of some of the busiest Accident and Emergency departments in England and Wales have written to Theresa May outlining their “very serious concerns” about patient safety. They assert that patients being treated in NHS hospital corridors are “dying prematurely.” The letter further says: “the fact remains however that the NHS is severely and chronically underfunded. We have insufficient hospital and community beds.”
A Labour government under the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn is needed to defend the NHS and reverse the enormous damage that the Tories are inflicting on the health service.
On the 70th year of the NHS we created – we demand that #ourNHS is given back! We must end the NHS crisis now.
