As the deadline of 31 October approaches it is entirely clear that the political situation is polarising around a choice between Boris Johnson’s attempted coup against parliament to achieve No Deal and Jeremy Corbyn’s efforts to stop it.
The formation of Boris Johnson’s hard right Cabinet makes crystal clear the meaning of a Tory Brexit. It is to subordinate Britain to a trade deal with the US in which the NHS would be up for sale, in which food standards would be cut to US levels, in which rights at work would be reduced to US levels, and in which a fundamental attack would be launched on Britain’s welfare state.
This autumn Britain will enter its biggest political crisis since World War II as Johnson, Farage and Trump launch their attempt to force through a No Deal/Hard Brexit – a fundamental attack on the working class and oppressed.
Theresa May’s response to the overwhelming rejection of her Brexit deal in parliament has been to try to threaten the possibility of crashing out of the EU with no deal – which would have huge negative effects for the British economy in the short term and even worse ones in the long run.
