The events at Labour’s NEC on 4 September which discussed the IHRA definition and examples of antisemitism will fail to ‘draw a line’ under entirely false attacks on Labour and Jeremy Corbyn – for reasons analysed below.
Through out the summer the media campaign falsely depicting Jeremy Corbyn as an antisemite has been significantly stepped up. Labour’s opponents are desperate to get him removed as party leader as Labour’s current popularity with voters means at present it could win a general election.

Trump’s shift on Israel’s capital – widely condemned
Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel represents a significant shift in US foreign policy. It is a violation of international law which recognises East Jerusalem is Palestinian territory that is has been under illegal Israeli occupation since 1967. It is a sharp departure from the internationally recognised basis for a two state solution, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
Oppose Israel’s attacks on Syria
On 27 April Israel launched missile strikes against an alleged Hezbollah arms hub near Damascus airport in Syria. Since 2011, Israel has launched multiple strikes inside Syria, mostly against Hezbollah. In March this year it launched several strikes near Palmyra.

Israel has suffered some serious reverses in international opinion as a result of its wars on Gaza in 2008/9 and 2014, illegal settlements in the West Bank, displacement of Palestinians in Jerusalem, apartheid-style internal discrimination and Netanyahu’s refusal to compromise or entertain meaningful negotiations. Its supporters are attempting to launch a counteroffensive. At the centre of this has been the attempt to silence expression of support for Palestine by conflating criticism of Israel and Zionism with anti-Semitism.

Whilst President Obama tries to tie down support this week in advance of forthcoming Congressional votes, the US military is preparing an immense assault on Syria. US imperialism does not make idle threats, so it intends that the attack will proceed. Members of Congress are being told that a ‘no-vote’ next week, against air-strikes, would catastrophically weaken the US for years to come.
