The rail companies are planning the biggest attack on their employees’ pay and working conditions for 20 years, in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis.
Despite making huge profits, Network Rail and the train operating companies have subjected their staff to multiyear pay freezes and plan to cut thousands of jobs which will make the railways unsafe.
Railway workers’ real pay levels have declined due to inflation and the rail companies are seeking to maintain these real pay cuts.
The trade unions representing railway workers are fighting back and are calling on the government to engage with the negotiations and end these attacks on the workforce.
If there is no settlement in the negotiations between the RMT and the companies then RMT members will be taking strike action across the national railway network on 21, 23 and 25 June.
In a separate dispute over pensions and job losses at London Underground, RMT and Unite members will take strike action on 21 June.
The TSSA and Aslef are now also balloting their members about taking action this summer if no settlement can be reached in their negotiations over pay and conditions.
All progressive people should support the rail unions in this fight.
Support the railway workers!
